Summary of Job:

Creative Studios at GetSmarter is responsible for marketing and education design to provide new capabilities to students, leading the evolution of EdTech products from traditional to digital in an ever-changing environment.

Within Creative Studios, the User Interface Design team is a combination and collaboration of user interface designers, visual designers, content writers, developers and brand strategists that work collaboratively to develop engaging and highly usable products.

The main purpose of a Lead UI Designer is to oversee visual communications for all digital and user-facing marketing collateral, to the highest standard, in keeping with the company and partners' visual style guides and manage designers directly under their report. 

A Lead needs to have an excellent understanding and practise of UI/UX design principles and designing across a variety of mediums and platforms with a focus on digital. Additionally, cultivate great working relationships with all stakeholders and assist the manager with implementing innovation and process that drives quality output, increases efficiencies and decreases spend.

Role:

The Lead UI designer is a dual-purpose tinkerer who is both passionate about a digital design environment, while managing people. 

This individual must have and exceptional fluency in front end web technologies with a solid understanding of Accessibility best practices and User Interface Guidelines. Experience building user-centric utility dashboards and journeys is a plus. 

The Lead UI must be able to rapidly brief the team to generate and iterate on prototypes, while sharing their knowledge on prototyping tools such as Sketch and InVision. They are also responsible for managing and maintaining the UI Design System that will be rolled out across the company.

This individual must be comfortable working with designers to create functional prototypes in a range of fidelities for proof of concept and understand best practices when handing over design to the development team.

The Lead UI must be a creative problem solver with explicit attention to detail, especially in the areas of interaction design, responsive interaction patterns, and animation. 

This person must be comfortable working within the company structure and processes, and be able to lead a team of UI designers.

Key Role and Responsibilities: 

  • Conceptualise and answer briefs autonomously and brainstorm innovative and functional solutions with key teams.
  • Assist Manager with innovation in strategies, priorities and principles for design that drive the team forward.
  • Collaborate with other departments and the rest of the Creative team to understand project needs and ensure the output of the highest quality.
  • Guide and provide feedback in a clear and respectful to peers, junior, mid-weight and senior members of the team. 
  • Establish and foster excellent relationships with team and stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks at the same time with excellent attention to detail.
  • Responsible for Design Reviews and final sign-off of creative work across the UI team, as well as some of the other marketing material in the studio (ie. Landing Pages, Prospectus’, Module Breakdowns, Co-brand guidelines).

Education and Experience:

  • 8+ years of work experience.
  • 3+ years people management experience
  • Relevant tertiary qualification (Design Diploma/Degree).
  • Evidence of experience within the listed responsibilities.
  • Technical knowledge and computer literacy essential: Adobe CC, Sketch, Invision, a great understanding of HTML and CSS.
